Iowa County Arrest History
The Iowa County Sheriff, city police departments, Wisconsin State Patrol, and other authorized agencies can make arrests here. The Iowa County department directory identifies law-enforcement channels in Arena, Avoca, Barneveld, Dodgeville, Highland, Linden, Mineral Point, Ridgeway, and the sheriff's jurisdiction. The agency that created an incident or arrest narrative remains its custodian, even when the person was then taken to the Iowa County Jail.
An arrest history is not one local list. The sheriff's Daily Activity Report covers recent official activity. The inmate roster is a current-custody snapshot. An agency report explains the police contact, while WCCA shows a case only after charges or a citation are filed. The Wisconsin DOJ repository joins eligible fingerprint-supported arrest cycles with later reports statewide. These records can overlap, but none should be used as proof of guilt.
Iowa County's Five-Column Arrest Roster
The official inmate roster is a refreshed PDF, not an interactive search portal. It has no search form, user account, filter, page control, or export tool beyond features in the reader's browser or PDF viewer. Its five columns are Inmate Name and number, Inmate Status, Charges, Hold Agency, and Bond Amount. Status wording observed in the official file includes “Confined But Not Convicted,” “Convicted,” and “Parole / Probation Violator.”
The Iowa County Jail gateway provides the roster route and the current jail contact.
The jail page is the official starting point for custody, but call 608-930-9500 extension 1 when current bond or release status matters.
Looking Up Iowa County Arrests
No single search returns every Iowa County arrest record. Follow the event from its newest official trace to its longer-term custodians. Note dates on PDFs and identify the arresting agency before requesting a narrative. If an outside agency such as State Patrol made the arrest, that agency may hold the report even though the county jail handled booking.
- Check the sheriff's Daily Activity Report for recent events, then open the dated inmate roster for current custody and listed bond.
- Call the Iowa County Jail at 608-930-9500 extension 1 when custody, release, or bond must be confirmed now.
- Request the incident or arrest narrative from the agency whose officer created it. Use the sheriff form only for sheriff-created records.
- Search WCCA after filing to trace court charges, hearings, disposition, and sentence.
- Use WORCS for a $7 adult Wisconsin repository check, not as a substitute for a fresh county report.
- Submit a precise public-record request by web form, mail, or at the sheriff counter when the public PDFs do not supply the needed document.
This sequence also explains gaps. A roster entry can appear before an incident narrative is released. A WCCA case cannot appear before filing, and a fingerprint-supported state cycle depends on agency and court reporting.
Iowa County Sheriff Arrest Requests
The sheriff's official public-record form is the fallback for sheriff-created incident, accident, booking, warrant, audio, video, photo, and jail material not published elsewhere. The county accepts requests online, by mail to Iowa County Sheriff's Office, Attn: Records, 109 E. Leffler St., Dodgeville, WI 53533, and at the counter on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The form states a 10 to 14 day window.
The form requests the incident date, associated names, location, exact records, and requester contact details, which helps staff find the correct Iowa County arrest material.

Accident and incident reports cost $5.28 each. Audio, video, or photographs supplied on each DVD or CD cost $26.38, plus shipping when needed. Long-term storage searches can add cost. Card payments carry a 3 percent convenience fee with a $1.50 minimum. Pending investigation or court-action reports are generally withheld without a court order or Iowa County District Attorney permission, though a completed Wisconsin accident report is released despite a pending action.
Inside an Iowa County Arrest Record
The public roster contains far less than a full booking or incident file. Read only the fields it actually provides. Charges can include a Wisconsin statute or administrative-code number, a description, counts, and enhancers. Hold Agency identifies the authority tied to custody, which may not be the same as the arresting agency that created the narrative. Bond can be blank, zero, or a stated amount and should be verified before payment.
| Inmate name and number | The roster's person and jail reference field; it is not presented as a full booking-history key. |
|---|---|
| Inmate status | Current custody wording such as confined but not convicted, convicted, or parole/probation violator. |
| Charges | Statute or code, description, counts, and enhancers displayed for current custody. |
| Hold agency | The agency responsible for the hold, not necessarily the officer's employing agency. |
| Bond amount | A blank, zero, or stated amount that requires live confirmation from the jail. |
| Fields not shown | No mugshot, date of birth, booking time, officer, housing pod, case number, court date, or release date. |
The roster's limits prevent a false sense of detail. Iowa County does not publish the exact internal intake fields, so a public lookup should not assume they exist in the PDF.
Iowa County's Recent-Arrest Sequence
For a new event, use three public layers in order: the sheriff's Daily Activity Report, the current roster, then WCCA. The daily report is the recent-activity channel. The roster answers whether a person is currently held and shows its print date. WCCA begins to help only after a citation or criminal case is filed. If timing or bond affects a decision, the jail phone is more reliable than an earlier PDF.
Record flow: Agency Contact › LEC Intake › Fingerprints and Photo › Roster and Bond › Prosecutor Review › WCCA Case › CIB Reporting
Qualifying fingerprints are submitted under Wisconsin's repository framework. Yet not every police arrest becomes a fingerprint-supported state event, and delays in agency or court reporting can leave a missing disposition. A city arrest can thus create records with a city police custodian, the Iowa County Jail, the circuit clerk, and Wisconsin DOJ at different times.
Booking Logs and Recent Arrests
Iowa County's roster is current, not historical. A person can leave the PDF after release, and an absence does not prove no past arrest occurred. The roster's “Confined But Not Convicted” status is a direct warning against treating present custody as guilt. “Parole / Probation Violator” identifies a supervision-related custody status, not a new conviction by itself.
The official Iowa County Sheriff page ties together sheriff services, jail access, and public-safety contacts.
The sheriff also offers the free Iowa County Sheriff WI app for iOS and Android. Its verified features include tips, crime reporting, inmate information, news, and public-safety notices. It is not an emergency tool and does not support a claim that Iowa County has an app-only warrant search.
Iowa County LEC Booking Records
The Law Enforcement Center opened in spring 2022 with 102 beds, six intake cells, medical space, and program areas. Its nonsecure Day Report room supports court-ordered book-and-release, out-of-custody DNA and urinalysis collection, and appointment fingerprinting. That setup helps explain why a jail-related record may concern a short court-directed process rather than an overnight custody stay.
Jail staff continuously manage custody, but sheriff administrative and records-counter hours are limited. Do not confuse the always-open facility with a records desk available at all hours. The jail number is also the practical check before using JailATM's bond feature. Select Wisconsin and Iowa County Sheriff's Department, then search by last name or inmate ID only after staff confirm the live bond amount.
Iowa County jail records can also reflect program access during confinement. Official jail materials list substance-use groups, GED and job-skills work, treatment court, a law library, counseling, benefits connections, religious services, and reentry help. Those services describe facility operations, not the outcome of a pending charge. A program entry should never be read as a conviction or admission.
Paying through JailATM and clearing the court's warrant are separate steps. Confirm both sets of instructions with the issuing court and jail.
Arrests Are Not Convictions
An Iowa County arrest record documents an agency contact, custody event, or booking. A conviction requires a plea or verdict and a court judgment. The District Attorney may issue charges different from those stated at arrest, decline to prosecute, or file only part of a referral. Later, a charge can be dismissed or end in acquittal. Compare the documents rather than treating the first label as the final result.
| Point | Arrest record | Conviction record |
|---|---|---|
| Creator | Arresting agency and jail | Wisconsin Circuit Court |
| Meaning | An arrest or booking was recorded | Guilt was established by plea or verdict |
| Local source | Agency report, activity report, or roster | WCCA metadata and clerk case file |
| Later result | Release, no charge, dismissal, acquittal, or conviction may follow | Sentence, appeal, or narrow expungement may follow |
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and Iowa County's own roster uses language that expressly separates custody from conviction.
Dismissed Iowa County Arrest Cycles
A dismissed court case does not automatically erase the agency report or Wisconsin CIB arrest cycle. Court expungement under Wis. Stat. § 973.015 is narrow and affects the qualifying court conviction record, not police, prosecutor, or repository files by default. A separate DOJ fingerprint-arrest removal request may be possible after certain non-conviction outcomes, including release without charges, no prosecution, dismissal, or acquittal.
When a CIB disposition is missing or wrong, Wisconsin DOJ's challenge process uses form DJ-LE-247 and may require a certified judgment, order, or prosecutor letter. DOJ charges no challenge fee, though fingerprint costs can arise. For the filed outcome, read the Iowa County criminal court case and obtain the controlling document from the clerk. For statewide repository content, review one's own WORCS response and challenge that record through DOJ.
